Q: I need healthy breakfast ideas. I've been eating Cream of Wheat, but I'm getting burnt out on it.
A: It sounds like time for you to shake things up a bit. And speaking of shakes, how about a smoothie? Blend fat-free or light vanilla yogurt with skim milk, ice cubes and berries. Or try a yogurt sundae: Layer fat-free or light yogurt with the sliced fruit of your choice and a few tablespoons of your favorite healthy cereal. I recommend low-fat granola for the biggest crunch.
For nondairy items, egg white omelets are always a winner. Simply scramble whisked egg whites in a nonstick pan with chopped or diced vegetables. Season with salt and pepper and serve with light toast. Or try a different bread and egg combo by making your own French toast: Soak light bread in whisked egg whites and a splash of skim milk. Then brown the bread on both sides in a nonstick skillet; top with banana slices and drizzle with light maple syrup.
