Are You Tempted by Stray Food?
Sure, mom taught you "waste not, want not." But feasting on anything free can put your weight-loss plan in danger. Are you prone to nibble on stray food?
1
You just had lunch, but there are leftover morning doughnuts up for grabs in the office kitchen. You:
Ignore them. They are not worth the
PointsPlus
values.
Have one, but
only
one.
Grab some. After all, they are free, and lunch just was not satisfying.
2
You made brownies — with nuts — for your family. But it turns out, they don't like nuts! They left most of the pan uneaten. What do you do?
Eat them. I can't just let them go to waste!
Have one, but bring the rest to work. My colleagues will be happy to eat them.
Throw them out.
3
You decide you want to splurge and spend some
PointsPlus
values on a small bag of chips. But the store only carries the "mega" size. What do you do?
Buy the bag, but check the nutrition label for the portion size. Then eat only that amount.
Buy the bag and eat a portion. Then eat the rest about an hour later.
Buy the bag and eat all the chips in one sitting.
4
Dining out with friends, you order a salad. It comes with breadsticks, which you hadn't accounted for when you figured the
PointsPlus
values. You:
Immediately ask your friends who wants them and pass them off. Better to get them off your plate.
Eat them. They came with the salad.
Allow yourself to eat just one, but get rid of the others. You will be over your
PointsPlus
Target a bit, but it looks good now that it's on your plate.
5
It's "free sample" day at the grocery store. What's your plan of attack?
Get there early, before there are lines at the sample tables.
Be sure to have a healthy snack before I go, so I have the willpower to choose only the samples that look really good.
Avoid it at all costs.
6
Your Sunday paper is always full of grocery store coupons for great bargains on candy. You:
Throw the coupons away.
Buy some. They're having a two-for-one sale!
Use one coupon to buy a bag of your favorite candy, then split it all up into small plastic bags. This way, you take advantage of the deal, but do not eat an entire bag of candy in one sitting.
7
Dinner's over. What do you do with the leftovers?
Pack them away. They will be good for lunch tomorrow.
Throw them away.
What leftovers?
8
Which of the following lessons were you taught as a kid?
"Clean your plate."
"Waste not, want not."
"Never pass up a bargain."
None of the above.
All of the above.
