Being flexible and able to adapt the Plan to my real life are the lessons I'm learning. Knowing that I'm teaching my daughter great eating habits and healthy lifestyle choices is my reward.
*People following the Weight Watchers plan can expect to lose 1-2 pounds per week.

Lesa joined Weight Watchers for the first time in the seventh grade. As self-confessed "serial re-joiner,” this time was different. Her At Work meeting got her to where she is today.

In Lesa's words
I followed the Weight Watchers plan several times before, but this time felt different. I joined the At Work Weight Watchers meeting in my office and started following the POINTS® Weight-Loss System. This time my greatest motivation was the desire to see my daughter grow up and start a family of her own.

I was pleasantly surprised. Suddenly, I had a group of people around me every day who were focused on the same goal I was. Our group was supportive and interested in seeing me succeed. My Leader and Receptionist were amazing, as they gave non-judgmental encouragement and advice.

The real beauty of the At Work atmosphere is that there is no excuse not to go to the meeting. It’s right there in the office; you can schedule it into your day like any other meeting and can’t use the weather as an excuse not to go.

The group encouraged me to join a local gym. It was the best thing I could have done. Little by little I worked myself up to working out four to five days a week. My daughter loved the gym and encouraged me to go, as she had such fun playing with the other kids in the child-care section. It became a fun outing for both of us.

A different approach
My schedule has changed and become more hectic, but this time things are different. I didn’t throw in the towel and stop exercising. In addition to going to the gym twice a week, I’m logging six to 10 miles a week walking everywhere I can. Being flexible and being able to adapt the Plan to my real life are the lessons I'm learning. Knowing that I'm teaching my daughter great eating habits and healthy lifestyle choices is my reward.

I have a history of weight struggles. I've fought it for what seems like my entire life. For the first time, I'm no longer fighting. I'm finally living, by changing my eating habits and lifestyle to achieve my healthy weight. I'm truly on a journey. It's full of detours and side trips, but it's wondrous and life-altering.

Lesa’s Tips
  • I am a muncher, so I love 94% fat-free popcorn. I spice it up with onion and garlic powder or barbecue seasoning spice. When I want a sweet treat, I sprinkle it with cinnamon and Splenda.
  • Use spaghetti squash instead of spaghetti. It's great. During the December holidays this helps me stay on Plan. I make spaghetti squash with shrimp and veggies. It's delicious and low in POINTS values.
  • If you have children, find a gym that provides child-care services. Then you won’t have an excuse for not finding the time to fit in activity.
  • Make weight loss a commitment to yourself and keep it.
  • Be patient. Anything worth having is not easy to achieve.
